On August 22, 2024, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 1,287 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Skilled Trades Stream during an Express Entry draw.
CRS Score Requirement for the OINP Draw
In this round, the draw targeted profiles with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 400 and 435, specifically those with experience in one of the 46 skilled trades listed under primary NOC codes. Express Entry profiles created between August 22, 2023, and August 22, 2024, that met these criteria were eligible for this OINP draw.
The score range has expanded compared to the previous OINP Skilled Trades Stream draw. The lower limit dropped by 8 points, from 408 to 400, while the upper limit remained unchanged.
Impact of Occupation Exclusions on Trade Candidates
However, some candidates in the trades pool have voiced concerns over the exclusion of profiles with experience in the remaining 35-36 occupations from both OINP and Federal Express Entry draws.
Successful candidates now have 45 days to accept the invitation and submit a complete application for provincial nomination. Receiving this nomination will add 600 points to their current Express Entry profile, increasing their CRS score to between 1,000 and 1,035, which almost guarantees selection in future Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) or all-program Express Entry draws.
For this draw, candidates did not need a separate OINP profile. Instead, qualifying profiles had to match one of the allowed trade occupations. OINP regularly reviews the IRCC-managed Express Entry pool to identify profiles that may qualify for an Ontario Express Entry stream.
